Shirley Tong

Ministry Staff Shirley has been serving with Novo Canada as a co-vocational missionary in South Vancouver since October 2025. Born and raised in a Chinese Canadian family, she is passionate about creating spaces of hospitality in her home where others can encounter God and grow in following Him together within their neighbourhood.

Shirley currently works part-time as a PE teacher and studies at Regent College. She carries a deep love for the Church and a heart for community, alongside an awareness of how her bicultural identity and experiences in a Chinese immigrant church have shaped her calling. She longs to cultivate safe spaces and outposts for healing, where people can share their stories and encounter God through prayer, worship, and community.

In June 2025, Shirley stepped out of Richmond Grace Alliance Church, her home church of 30 years, and began attending a local neighbourhood church, Awake Vancouver. After serving for 18 years in children’s, youth, and worship ministries, she sensed a growing call to step into something new—engaging her local community through prayer, hospitality, and relational disciple-making. She desires to see churches and everyday believers equipped to hear and obey God together from the ground up, trusting in the Lord’s leading to do something new.
