Downtown Windsor Community Development
The Novo Canada team in downtown Windsor are cultivating followers of Jesus at the margins shaped by justice, mercy and prayer. With neighbours in Downtown Windsor, the team are creating an intercultural Christian community who are developing local leaders and seeking the Kingdom of God through prayer, hospitality, and community development.
The team lives and works in Essex County which has the highest concentration of poverty in the county (Essex County gave the immediate neighbourhood a “quality of life” score of 4.3/100), it is also a hotspot of refugee and migrant settlement. The team is working toward holistic renewal with neighbours in job skills training, community organizing around pressing issues, access to bicycles and repair workshops, and breaking down tribalism by bringing diverse populations together and investing in youth to be peacemakers in the community.
This team includes members of the global religious order called InnerChange. InnerChange was started over 40 years ago in collaboration with Novo U.S., and is now an international religious order with members around the world.
Donations given toward this project are considered undesignated funds and will be applied to related staff salaries, and supplies community projects. This is an ongoing project for Novo Canada.
